Communicating across borders
05. Fremmedsprog: en kilde til bekymring?
This has given rise to profound concern … amongst whom? When the Confederation of Danish Industry voices concern over our poor skills in foreign languages, we’ve got to be worried. “We lose business because we don’t master German!” And language professionals proclaim that we are about to lose our cultural heritage because we don’t learn French. On the other hand, and perhaps a little sadly, Danish pupils and students don’t seem to be overly enthusiastic about such arguments. Basically, the worries expressed over the past 15–20 years are rooted in the same argument: loss of territory, be it linguistic, cultural, professional or personal. The argument is repetitive and not as conducive to the process as it could be. This talk offers perspectives that might pave the way for a sound, forward-looking foreign-language policy in Denmark. This talk is held in English or in Danish.

Tak for en fantastisk ‘Global Friday’ formiddag i fredags. Jeg tror vi alle fik skærpet appetitten til at høre meget mere om det hele … Det var meget interessant.
